We have been working on a media plan since spring 2019 so that the team has the power to produce our own media.
This is about representing ourselves, publicising and promoting our work and our citizenship, fixing damaging narratives about refugees, and reporting the situation in Athens from within the community. So far this centres on sound recording, radio, and writing:
We launched our website, the Active Citizens Sound Archive, in December 2019 – showcasing our activism and inclusion activities with descriptions in English, Arabic and Greek.
We contributed two radio programmes to the Movement Festival at the Onassis Centre, Athens, in February 2020.
We are working on a 6-part radio series, to be completed in summer 2020.
We have been invited to participate in a project called ‘The City Talks Back’ at the Onassis Centre, based on the idea of the political voice in Athens. This results in a public assembly at the Onassis Centre in spring 2021.
We have an offer to exhibit our work at the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford, UK. This will be a sound exhibition using recordings we have made, launching in autumn 2020.
We will also write and publish more articles to publicise our work and report what is happening in Athens.
